Changes to Technicals and Unsportsmanlike Fouls for 2023/24

This is the FIBA rule for unsportsmanlike:

37.1. 1 An unsportsmanlike foul is a player contact which, in the judgement of a referee is: Contact with an opponent and not legitimately attempting to directly play the ball within the spirit and intent of the rules. Excessive, hard contact caused by a player in an effort to play the ball or an opponent.

XII. Conduct of Players

1.  Any player charged with two technical fouls or two unsportsmanlike or a combination of in a single game shall be suspended from league play for at least one game. The player, through his team representative, may appeal to the league executive within five days of the game to have his case reviewed.  The Executive Committee shall then schedule a time and place within the next 7 days for the appeal to be heard and advise the team representative of such time and place. On the appeal, the suspended player or his team representative has the right to be heard, and to present as a witness any person present at the time of the incident which gave rise to the suspension. The decision of the Disciplinary Committee on the appeal is final.

1b. Any player being assessed for a technical foul or an unsportsmanlike foul shall NO LONGER be suspended for the remainder of the half in which the foul was assessed. (Amended October 2023)

1c. Any player suspended for the second occasion for 2 Technical or Unsportsmanlike fouls in any season shall be suspended for a minimum of three games.  (Amended October 2023)

1d. Any player that accumulates 3 Technical or 3 Unsportsmanlike fouls during the season will be suspended for 1 game.
